About Maa_Tree
Plant a tree isn't the point. Protecting it is.
Maa_Tree is a non-profit environmental movement that asks people to take real, lasting responsibility for trees — not just plant one and walk away.
Where it started
Maa_Tree was started by Rakshana Ganesh, a law student, as a movement centred on trees, urban heat and everyday greenery in Madurai.
The idea behind Maa_Tree is simple to say and harder to do: trees that get planted need someone who stays with them. A sapling put in the ground and forgotten doesn't cool a street or hold a habitat — it just doesn't survive.
So Maa_Tree isn't built around plantation events or one-time counts. It's built around a commitment: grow and protect two trees, and treat that as an ongoing responsibility rather than a single afternoon.
Our philosophy
Plant
The starting point, not the finish line.
Grow
Water, watch, and give a tree the years it needs.
Protect
Defend it from damage, neglect and being forgotten.
Where it’s headed
Madurai → Tamil Nadu → India
Maa_Tree is currently focused on Madurai. That focus is deliberate — the intention is to build something real here first, then extend the same commitment to growing and protecting trees across Tamil Nadu and, eventually, India.
Who it’s for
Maa_Tree is built to include individuals, students, schools, colleges, companies, organizations, associations, communities and volunteers — anyone willing to grow and protect two trees, alone or together.
